An International Capacity-Building Workshop for School Educators
The future of education is evolving, and empowering educators with the knowledge, skills and resources to embrace this transformation is more important than ever.
On 14 November 2026, the International Youth Council (IYC), in collaboration with Educators Without Borders International (EWBI) and the University of Birmingham, will host an international capacity-building workshop at Mandarina Colombo, Sri Lanka.
This exclusive programme will bring together 100 teachers of D.S. Senanayake College, providing an opportunity to engage with international academics and Sri Lankan education professionals on emerging developments in education, artificial intelligence and innovative teaching practices.
The one-day programme is designed to strengthen the professional capabilities of educators by introducing practical approaches and contemporary educational practices that can contribute to more effective, inclusive and engaging learning environments.
The workshop will focus on three key areas:
Exploring the role of Artificial Intelligence in transforming school education, including emerging AI tools, ethical considerations and practical applications for classroom teaching and learning.
Understanding funding opportunities, grants and resource mobilisation strategies to support school-level projects, educational initiatives and community development programmes.
Discovering innovative teaching methodologies, active learning strategies, engaging digital content and student-centred approaches that encourage participation, creativity and critical thinking.
Beyond international perspectives, the workshop will examine how modern educational approaches can be integrated with Sri Lanka's national curriculum and competency-based education reforms.
Special attention will be given to practical challenges faced by educators, including digital literacy, classroom management and adapting innovative teaching practices to resource-limited and rural educational environments.
The programme will feature contributions from international academics and education professionals, including:
Sri Lankan education experts will also contribute perspectives on curriculum alignment, digital literacy and practical classroom implementation.
